Hometown: San Francisco, Calif.
College: Brown University
Host newspaper: The Providence (R.I.) Journal
What I know about my internship
newspaper: Because I go to school in Providence, R.I., I get to read The
Providence Journal every day in the dining halls. The ProJo, as it’s called
here, is Rhode Island's largest newspaper, with a Sunday circulation of about
215,000. It's a well-respected paper that has won awards for investigative
reporting. Two of my professors have worked as ProJo reporters.
What I'll be doing at my internship
newspaper:
I'll be working as a metro reporter at a regional bureau.
How I got interested in journalism:
When I was a high school freshman, I read what I thought was
a really funny column about Go-Gurt (yogurt for on-the-go kids) in the student
newspaper and decided that I wanted to write columns like that. But after
signing up for the newspaper, I started reporting more serious news and have
since fallen in love with that.
What I'll pack:
I live in Providence, so I'll pack everything that's in my
dorm room.
What I do for fun:
I love biking, doing crossword puzzles and playing board
games, especially Scrabble and Trivial Pursuit. I'm also a sports fan and love
to watch and play baseball, football and soccer.
Favorite Web site(s):
Besides SFGate.com, my homepage, I love reading the Web
sites of The New York Times, The Washington Post and ESPN. And I love watching
YouTube.
